Leigh Parkin Artist
Leigh grew up on a river in Iowa with a mother who was both an artist and a poet and a father who loved nature. Through the influence of these nurturing parents Leigh learned to embrace, appreciate, and protect all aspects of nature. She now uses brush or pencil to capture, replicate and preserve the beauty of the flora and fauna she loves.
Leigh studied earth sciences as an undergraduate and was a potter for many years. She received her Masters Degree in Psychology and she counseled troubled teens. During that time both nature and art therapy were a major focus of her work.
When Leigh and her husband moved to Arizona several years ago the unique
Sonoran Desert environment intensified her interest in both nature and
art. She began a course of study at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum,
Art Institute where she received her “Certification in Nature Illustration”.
She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, The Colored
Pencil Society of America, and the Tucson Colored Pencil Artists Association.
She is co-founder and co-president of the Starr Pass Art League.
She specializes in Colored Pencil but often enhances her artwork with Watercolor, Gouache, Pastels, and Solvents. Leigh also enjoys working with both Pen and Ink and Scratchboard.
She has recently been accepted into two juried art shows. “Zenizo Bloom”
can be seen on the CPSA web site in the “Explore This 5” show. Her piece
entitled “Twisted Fate” is a mixed media work depicting a Saguaro skeleton
was selected to be included in the show “A Closer Look at Cactus and Succulents
in the Ironwood Gallery at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson
Arizona.
Leigh has also had two of her art works published in the Arizona Game and Fish magazine “Arizona Wildlife Views” March/April 2009 addition.
Leigh offers her Originals, as well as Limited Edition and high quality Giclee prints. She is also available for commissions.
